PDO Threads

PDO threads stimulate collagen production and provide support and lifting of sagging skin, folds, and wrinkles. PDO threading is a strong synthetic monofilament fiber (medical grade suture material) consisting of one solid fiber of thread with painless barbs. The advantage technology of the barbs allows for strong gripping and proximation of tissues resulting in a sculpted and lifted appearance. The thread will dissolve over 6 months, depending on the thickness, during this process your body is naturally creating collagen. The results last approximately 9-18 months, depending on the patient metabolism, amount received, and location.

FAQ's

Polydioxanone (PDO) threads involve the use of barbed and smooth threads. It is a minimally invasive method of lifting the sagging skin of the face. Areas treated with this method include the eyebrows, the cheeks, the jowls, and the neck. This procedure leaves the face firmer and tighter and gives a more youthful appearance. PDO threads are used to bridge between botox and dermal fillers to help give a fine-tuned outcome.

The best candidates for a thread facelift are in their 30s to 60s and have relatively good skin tone. Most are beginning to experience sagging in their face or neck but do not have excessively loose skin or drooping facial areas that might require more rigorous facelift surgery. If signs of aging are relatively minimal, a thread lift may be a good way to make cosmetic enhancements while avoiding facelift scarring and other potential side effects, which sometimes occur after more intensive surgical procedures. Contraindications to thread facelifts include multiple skin allergic reactions or infections, dandruff, hair lice, immunologically compromising diseases like cancer, systemic diseases such as diabetes.

Threads are not painful; however, this is a highly variable answer because some patients are more sensitive than others. Also, depending on how many, the location and type of threads are used can vary. Local anesthetics are required and can be painful during the infiltration process.

You may go home with bunched-up or dimpled skin, but that should be mild and resolved within a week. Beyond that, thread recovery is relatively easy. The recovery is similar to getting injectable fillers, you might have mild swelling and bruise for up to a week. To reduce swelling faster, sleep sitting up for a few days, avoid rubbing, tugging, or massaging your skin, or making exaggerated facial movements.
